upgrading ram solves problem of occasional drop outs?

will upgrading my Ram from 256MB >> 512 or higher, solves my problem of some occasional drop outs? I have a Powerbook G4 1Ghz, 256MB, Mac OsX 10.3.9, using intern CoreAudio driver. Can some one tell me, maybe anybody who did the same and had good results after upgrading...

well, i have an 867 / 640 mb RAM and Live runs fine... as long as i dont go crazy with vsti plugins. Altho, i have noticed that beyond 50-60% CPU it can still drop-out! This is annoying, especially considering that apps like Reason can run at +80% CPU with no drop-outs. ok the GUI refreshes every 30 seconds

but at least the audio stays steady

but as a rule i would say that more RAM = better performance for real-time DSP.
if u are on 256 i would go to at least 512, and if u can afford it, put the maximum of RAM.

Also, this is where the difference between altivec and non-altivec optimization seems to have a noticeable impact (G4 users)... I find that Logic handles AU plugins better than Live. It seems to keep the CPU level lower and more steady, avoiding large spikes - which i think are partly responsible for audio drop outs.

try comparing the korg legacy AU on logic / live + see what i mean!

I was very surprised to hear that ableton's altivec tests didnt show a big improvement in performance...

I just noticed this post and thought I would ass along this website for RAM. They have some of the best prices I have found. You should be able to find a gig for $200, and 512mb for easily under $100. They ae great to deal with and I think they still have free shipping.

this is the cheapest ram for macs around...ive used them for years.
Never had any issues....you can buy samsung original apple boards or their own brand.

most prices are around $30-40 cheaper than archmemory.com

I recently added ram to my G5- jumped from 512 to 2.5 gigs...

I didn't really notice any major difference, it just SEEMS to run smoother. In a sense, adding the ram seems to have had a placebo effect on me.

The only downer is that Reaktor still crashes.
