i want to tweak my g4 800 mhz ibook so live will run smoothly,
can some one please tell me how to adjust the amount of memory and cpu that live uses so i wont get sudden 100% cpu surges.
thanx,
ok, im dumb i need help please,..........
-dont open too many programs at the same time (try to have Live the only open one when you are using it)
-if a track uses a ton of effects and you dont need to tweak them then bounce them to audio in another track
-load some of the small clips onto RAM so you wont get HD problems (i recommend getting an external hardrive)
thats the most i can help you with my knowledge.

a general rule of thumb for G4s,
DO NOT use Ableton Reverb. instead, use the Apple AUMatrixReverb that comes free in OSX. if you don't see it in your plugins folder, go to prefs in Ableton and enable Audio Units.
This will save you some CPU, plus the AUMatrixReverb is actually really damn good. no it doesnt have a pretty GUI, but (in my opinion) it sounds as good as a TC Electronic M-One. especially when rendered at 96khz.
and another CPU saving tip.
if you're using Ableton's EQ3 for something, see if you can get away with using Ableton's EQ4 instead. it uses far less CPU and 9 times out of 10 it is capable of the same result. Generally speaking, its more flexible as well.
aside from that, sit tight and wait for version 5
the Freeze feature will make life on G4 laptops much easier.
