Pro Tools 10 or Ableton live 8 ?

Post by scpjrprius » Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:43 am

I currently use Pro Tools 9 that i just purchased. Now Pro Tools 1 year later releases version 10.I can upgrade to 10 for $300 bucks lol.Right now i can get Ableton Live 8 for $249 bucks.Live Lite just came with my M-Audio Axiom Pro 49.Through an upgrade offer the full version of Ableton Live 8 can be had for $249 bucks.I also currently have Komplete 9 Ultimate from NI.Would it make any difference if i went for Ableton Suite? The reason i'm asking these questions is i'm ready to make an upgrade to either PT10 or Ableton Live 8 or suite.I don't do any DJ work all i do is compose beats with midi and Mashine from NI.I use an Mbox 3 as my interface.Any sugestions or comments would be great.Because my final decision will be based on the feedback i get from here.Thank you.

Doesnt sound like you need more software to me..

Have you downloaded the 30-day trial and tried it out?
Your final decision should rather be based on your experience during those 30 days..

do what Rabalder said. just download demo version which has a full functionality for 30 days. its more than enough time to decide :). in the end its all about the workflow. if you happy with protools then no need to spend more money. if you willing to stick with it just wait till protools 11 as to me there is nothing worth upgrading in version 10 (still no 64 bit...).

anyway you can make great tracks on what you have got right now :).

Your setup is already awesome; you can't go wrong. The major features of both tools should be about the same, try them both using free trials and pick the one whose workflow you like the best.

Well the obvious difference between Live and any other sequencer is it's ability to compose music in a non-linear fashion(Session view). Even Live's linear mode (Arrange view) yields more flexibility in routing options than any other sequencer, very easily. Live Lite doesn't have some crucial features so you don't really know what your missing in the full product(e.g.- slice to midi command).
IMHO- since you own Komplete 8 you don't really need Suite.

If you're happy with PT9, just stay there. You can upgrade to PT10 whenever you feel like it, no need to constantly jump versions just because the mfr wants you to.

I still use Reason 2.5, that's almost 7 years out of date.

Stick with PT if u know it well and have no issues with it. If you do try ableton and like it's workflow, just get the basic. No need for suite seriously i you have komplete. I came from PT also and ableton just clicked with me more
