i am trying to sync my tr 909 with ableton via the midi out on my audio interface. my problem is that the 909 is currently a small step behind ableton's clock when ever i cue it up. i am aware of the track delay menu, but i've never had to use it before. is the track delay how i would properly sync the 909? any advice would be most appreciated.

tr 909 midi sync help
Re: tr 909 midi sync help
send a simple pattern to the 909, (4 snare quarter notes for example)
record the audio output in the audio track through which you are monitoring it,
zoom WAY in on one of those recorded snare transients,
highlight the space between the clip's quarter note grid and where the recorded transient begins,
the difference in time will show in the bottom left hand corner,
invert that number and apply to your outgoing midi channel's delay compensation.
(i have the same problem with my midi-retro-fit 808)
hope this picture helps:
