I don't know what happened, but it won't change the tempo in Live 8.
I'm sure it's something simple and dumb that I'm just over-looking.
Any ideas?

What always happens to me is that I use the Num Pad and I have Num Lock turned off…

The Tap Tempo on the MPK49 (I don't know about the MPK61) doesn't directly control the tempo in Live the way most people expect.
If you sync Live to the tempo of the MPK it doesn't work well at all. I've tried it with my MPK49 and it's horrible then eventually just gives you an error (maybe this has been fixed with the MPK61). To do this in Options/Preferences/MIDI Sync make sure that TRACK, SYNC and REMOTE are turned ON next to |>Input:MPK61 Input (Akai MPK61)
Then I think you need to click on EXT next to the Tap button in the top left corner of the Live interface.
Like I said, this doesn't work well at all for me with my MPK49. I think you even need to have Play on for this to even start working.
It's better to sync the MPK to the tempo of Live in Options/Preferences/MIDI Sync. Make sure that TRACK, SYNC and REMOTE are turned ON next to |>Output:MPK61 Input (Akai MPK61)
Of course this won't help you use the Tap Tempo button on the MPK. In fact, it makes that button completely useless
I suppose you could MIDI map one of the rubber pads on the MPK to the Tap button in Live instead.
