New to Ableton

[Lug Nutz]

I just recently got a launchpad and ableton. I have been using the launchpad as a midi controller for traktor, awsome product. But I have been looking for some info to help me get started and get my head wraped around the DJ technique in the video below. I have yet to find any info on how to get started on setting everything up, and if anybody could point me in the right direction it would be very appreciated!!!

It sounds trite, but run through the tutorials included with Live (they're under Help, then Help View). They don't take long and are a pretty good introduction.

The manual is also quite good. Don't read it cover to cover, just check out the relevant sections to whatever facet you're currently exploring.

I would say you definitely should read the manual cover to cover. Its not exactly a big manual and its easy to read and follow. Possible to read it all in a weekend if you've got nothing else on. You wont take it all in, but it will give you an overview of what's possible and the correct way to approach most tasks. Then you can go back and revisit sections and refresh your memory whenever you're struggling with something specific.

as stated already, go through the built in lessons. That video you posted is nothing all that crazy, it's just 64 clips warped and tempo synched so that they will work together, when they're yellow they're not playing, when they're green they are, if he hits a green button, the clip is re-triggered. You want complicated techniques? There you go!

I guess I should have said "don't read the whole thing cover to cover up front," since it isn't strictly necessary to get moving with Live. I actually would recommend reading it all to anyone who's interested, since it taught me a ton when I did it in version 7.

Kudos to Ableton's writers for making such nice material.
