ableton dosent respond to 'chords' from by midi keyboard

hi,

i have trouble playing keyboard chords effectivley and wanted to make playing chords simpler for me, so i bought a new midi keyboard which enables chords to be played by pressing just one key. The keyboard plays the chords ok when its NOT hooked up to my PC/Ableton ( so i know the keyboard plays ok ) BUT, when i connect to the PC/ableton, Ableton will only process the single key notes i play and when i try to use the 'one key' chord function nothing happens, no sound is made and the small square in the top right-hand corner of ableton which normally lights up when you play midi keys, does not light up for the chords.

has anyone else had a similar problem?

what is this chord-playing keyboard?
I'm picturing some kind of toy. IE: the chord feature is not a MIDI feature, but some sort of daft on-board auto accompaniment which doesn't send the data out.
