Reason 6 is the bomb. Why do you want an older version, if you don't mind me asking?

The older the version, the warmer the sound...

You're kidding, right???

Any song done in Reason 3 will sound the same in Reason 6. If anything, Reason 6 has some new effects that can add a lot more warmth than anything in version 3.

Reason 6 has:

1) A dongle
2) An unwanted SSL mixer if you are using it with Live
3) Increased CPU hit (they may be working on this one though)
4) Additional workflow complexity thanks to the SSL mixer
5) Some nice new effects
6) Audio tracks

For me number 5 does not beat 1, 2, 3 and 4. And audio tracks are somewhat wasted if you use it with Live.

I'm sticking with Reason 5 for now.

To answer the OP's question: KVR's for sale forum or Ebay.

Seriously???? :?

If you only use Reason with Live, you can completely bypass the SSL mixer if you want and work just like it was Reason 5. If you think about it, the new mixer is only active when you start adjusting it's settings anyway, so your points 2 and 4 are moot.

If you really think that audio tracks are a waste if you use Live, then I challenge you to to take one of your finished Live songs and export the individual tracks. Set Reason's tempo to the song's tempo and import all the tracks into Reason. Adjust the levels so that it sounds just like it did in Live. Use the new mixer's lowpass and highpass filters and do some subtle eq'ing. Turn on the gate on your drums on some very subtle settings. Make sure the master bus compressor is on, but don't adjust it's settings. Run the main mixer's out into a Scream 4 on the "Master Compress" preset, and then run that through a Combinator set to the "4 Band Compression" preset. Run the output of that through a Maximizer and make sure the look ahead and soft clip are activated.

Now export the song. Open up it up in an audio editor side by side with the same song exported from Live and hear the difference............

I used Reason 4 for years. Lost my disc - hence looking for old versions.

Interestingly, 6 months or so ago I did a Google Search for Reason 3 and found vendors selling it for $50, and Reason 4 for $150. I figure heck, Reason is great but I don't use it THAT much, I do like it occasionally, so I'd be fine getting an older version.

Got too much gear to buy to warrant getting Reason 6. My CPU is killer, but the rest of my chain is in the $200 or less category. Now that I get paid to record, it's time to step it up. Reason 6 is more of what I already have. But Reason 3 for $50 would be perfect... if I can find it!

Just use the link Dean provided and you can use Reason 4 all over again for $33. If you registered your version of Reason 4, then it's still on the website. Just log in, grab your old registration number and you'll be good to go as soon as you get your replacement disc. Also, when you install Reason, be sure to go back to the website and download the updates for Reason 3.

Been down that road. My Reason 4 was a Guitar Center Employee version, and Propellerhead doesn't honor this version - CD key only, no online registration allowed.

I guess it comes down to the second-hand market for finding old software.
