EQing multiple Sets during a gig

Post by John Caputo » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:41 am

I'm using Live as an interactive backing band (I do a world/fusion guitar-type thing); and I currently have one large Set that covers the night. I'm thinking of doing some significant switches in instrumentation, which would warrant a second Set. If I was going to use both Sets during the course of an evening, does anyone have any suggestion on EQ/level adjustments when switching between them?

I usually have an EQ plugin on the master that I use to tune the Set to the room - when using multiple Sets, would most folks introduce an external EQ (hardware) to handle the multiple sets? Thoughts appreciated! (As are hardware recommendations.)

Thanks,

-John

This might not be too helpful, since I'm sure that along with getting your sound for the room, the sound also works uniquely to the expectations of each set, but maybe you can create a rack that you place into both Master channels. The key is to make sure the rack is saved in a folder, and to pull it From that folder onto the Master.

Then, you adjust it, and save it back into that folder with either the name of the venue or date.

When you open the new set, and hit the hotswap button, it will instantly jump to that folder in the browser, where you can arrow key and hit enter on the recently saved settings.

Great idea. Thanks! I like to travel light, I think this suggestion might just do the trick as I'd be switching Sets during a break. Thanks folks.
