I have to buy a clip lamp for my Kindle Touch because the sexy time light next to my bed isn't bright enough for me to read it at night. :x

In other news the iBook app just got a major update.

iBooks 1.5 adds the following new features as well as some stability and performance improvements:
• Nighttime reading theme makes reading books in the dark easier on the eyes.
• Full-screen layout lets you focus on the words without distraction.
• iBooks now features an improved selection of fonts, including Athelas, Charter, Iowan, and Seravek.
• Beautiful new classic covers for public domain books.
• Support for pop-up footnotes, included in select iBookstore titles.
• A redesigned annotation palette makes it easier to choose a color for your highlighted text.

I'll be excited when I read this update:

• Cuts iPad's weight in half.

I haven’t tested the Lemur app yet, but after just browsing the templates on the site I was instantly reminded of why I didn’t buy a hardware Lemur and why I don’t pee myself over TouchAble and the likes. Touch screen control looks awesome on youtube videos and sounds great in concept, but unless you’ve got something specific in mind that only a touch screen can do or needs a custom layout for your purposes, it’s really not all that mind blowing or game changing beyond just the concept.

I realized that when I was on the fence about buying a Lemur a few years ago. I’m sitting on that fence again, but at least it only cost me $50 and I’m sure I’ll find something interesting about it eventually.

One could argue that TouchAble was the Lemur of yesteryear and aside from the physics stuff close-e-fucking-nough. The few times I got it to work for 5 minutes before it lost connection or stopped updating I thought it was cool but didn’t completely reinvent the way I write music or improved the music. The only standout thing for me was having clips with names on the screen for easy launching with multitouch. Most everything else could be done with a tactile controller, but also I’m not a deep sound/song designer. I’m old school like that. :x

nah I'm waiting for christmas, apple said think different so I'm buying my apps ahead of time :)
btw what if I wanted to get a dedicated ipad for synths, is the base model first ipad good enough to lets say turn into an animoog only machine?

and what the deal on that camera kit 1.am spoke of is it the best option?

At this point the first gen iPad is NOT what I would get to run anything music related. The Animoog is a great example - it crawls when you've got any other music app running in the background and/or using some of the more intensive features

Yes, but I can show up to gigs with a device that fits in my purse and have an unlimited and unprecendented amount of control over my set that would normally require 24 tons of 'tactile' hardware.

I feel that you're slightly over-exaggerating the combined weight of tactile hardware it would take to get relatively the same amount of control you can get with an iPad. But if you do feel that's an accurate comparison then I can see why you're so enamored with iPad controller apps.
