No, I did not get in touch with Ableton Support on this issue. Can you give me the name of someone 'good?' I got someone who is struggling with English.

I've only ever contacted them through email support, which I think used to be [email protected]. I just checked the website though, and there's this contact form which I presume is the correct avenue now. I don't remember the names of the people I worked with (I'm in the USA if that matters), but every one of them was really helpful.

Now - and tell me if this should be considered 'closed,' and I should post as another topic, I have a much more hideous problem.

This thread's title ("Idiot Level questions?") is already pretty non-descriptive so you won't really be confusing things by continuing the discussion. I think it's fine to keep it here.

The back to arrangement light is NOT coming on when it should; namely I have 9 tracks and set up key automation such that 'a' and 's' keys solo tracks 8&9 killing 1-7. This is so I can employ the classic "all faders but the guitar" suddenly off for a second. Bob - I tried recording this move from arrangement view. It obeys the faders but when I save the set, the automation was ignored. Okay ... So now I close Ableton re-open fire up the set and run the set from clip view applying the automation. Same deal. Works perfectly but when set saved automation ignored.

Are you actually recording the automation (with the master record button on), or just playing it? Does the automation show up as curves in Arrangement view? What if you manually create the curves instead of playing them, does it get saved then?

Now Bob - I notice NOTHING is causing the back to arrangement light to come on, nothing. I go into clip view massively change settings the light won't budge. I reboot, same thing. This blows! Most folks complain about the light coming on, but now I want it on as proof something is about to be changed it's 'dead.'

I forget what all can cause that light to come on, but the one thing that I'm quite sure will do it is triggering a clip in Session view while there is also a clip in Arrangement view on the same track. Give this a try and see if it comes on.

I'm getting the impression that you might not actually be recording your automation or clip playback, so that there's nothing in your arrangement view, and therefore the button doesn't come on. I'm not sure if this is true of course, but it's a hunch.

Can you post your set, screenshots, video of the problem, anything like that?

Also, potentially another huge bug - sometimes I am presented with the option to Save Set, Sometimes only with Save Set As - without any seeming logic at all. Arbitrary.

I have no idea why it might be doing this.

This is why I asked you if you have a favorite guy in support the lady I got just cut and pasted the same (totally wrong) reply 3 times.

What was the reply from support? Even if it appears wrong I'm curious what they think the problem is.


EDIT: Just thought of this. You're using a legit, legally-purchased copy of Live, right? I remember there was a rumor going around that the cracked versions, if they detected that they were cracked, would start inserting all sorts of weird bugs. I've never confirmed this.
