Lol. Let's just put it this way, I don't hear anything in that beat (As cool as it might be) that can't be done in Live. In fact, I would say the mix actually needs some attention, there is almost no separation between sounds, except for the kick. I admit, it is a cool tune, and props to him for getting his shit out there and winning, that's awesome. The point is, ideas for a track don't come from a DAW. They come from your brain, which, by the way, upgrades are free for that.

Re: 16 Year Old Wins Remix Contest
I think there's a bias, and they wanted to find someone who fit the largest target market (young suburban white boys) because there's plenty of tracks equally if not better there.
Get a kid who you can tell wants to sound like FlyLo and Madlib in his beats and there ya go.
Listen to his favorite self-track at the bottom, an ode to Cosmogramma, where the distinction between shredding jazz bass and not knowing how to play bass is blurred.
It's a perfect example of the type of person who they want to and will buy stuff.
"If he can win a contest, I can too! I need Live, Maschine, an APC40!"
This 80's look revival is getting really old.
So, did they just give him the keyboard to hold up at the photoshoot?

It's as if there's an age/performance ratio that just increases exponentially the younger they are.

Not here to judge the winning remix because it,s okay but was this a remix-contest in which the remixers has to invite as many as possible people(facebook friends) to vote on his or her remix? if yes, the remixer wins who has the most friends and not the best remix wins.

truth be told, everyone should start lying about their age now like just say you're 14 it would be hilarious if that started happening.shadx312 wrote:I think there's a bias, and they wanted to find someone who fit the largest target market (young suburban white boys) because there's plenty of tracks equally if not better there.

Re: 16 Year Old Wins Remix Contest
I should have entered that. I thought there were better entries than his track. I also got the feeling of some sort of bias.
Oh well, its subjective anyways.
