Even I'm facing the same problem and haven't been able to crack it. Anyone who knows a way around, please help!

I can't +1 this enough. There should be a column in the macro editing panel in which the default value for the macro can be set. After pressing Delete on the macro, it should reset to this position.

I could see the programming for macros controlling multiple parameters being a bit tricky, but there should be an elegant way to implement this.

wow.. ! i've been struggling with this for sometime too. and not just for a macro, i should be able to set my own default value for any parameter.
i hope someone from ableton is reading this..

I hate it when I assign something to a macro and the value jumps to 0 or -inf

Is this what you are talking about?
There are a few cool hidden features in these videos
In the one when you map a parameter to a macro the macro range is set to the level or the parameter
I really like that hack!

I think it is but I thought this was about setting a custom default value for knobs in racks as bhuvan wrote
so I'll make a separate post about it. But thanks for the tip!

Has anyone not yet found a work around for this? This would be extremely useful - Even if it wasn't on the 'map' table and was instead a right click to "set current value as default"

I love making audio effect racks to share with friends and this would be excellent for if they wish to set the parameter back to default.

My example of needing this is:
I've got the width from utility assigned to macro one
Increasing the width of the utility also increases the gain by a _lot_
I assign the gain from the macro knob.

Now this means that all of a sudden (and I don't understand why) the default value is at -35db gain where the macro knob starts at 0. I don't wish to assign a separate macro for gain increase otherwise it's not really macro controlling things ^_^''

Thanks for reading :)

Actually I found the solution on the forums, you can't exactly do it in the way I asked in my previous response but there's a solution for this over here: viewtopic.php?t=234371

It tells you to save the audio effect rack with the defaults that you'd like. You can then re-drag the saved audio effect rack. Do check it out above! ^

Sure it may be more tedious if you've already automated every parameter in older projects but there it is :)
