How to midi map the Record Arm button ??? Why oh why ?

Post by discopimp » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:23 pm

ok this is a strange one ... trying to do sth fairly simple: i just want to be able to switch the Arm button from a Midi controller. The problem is that the Arm button seems to be a bit different to other buttons (the Speaker On button for example) since i can't get this to work. What happens is that no matter which CC or Note i use to midi map this button .. it behaves like thi:

First Press: Arm goes on
Second Press: Arm stays on
Thrd press: Arm goes off
Fourth press: Arm stays off
Fifth Press: Arm goes on

and so on ...

With any other element i can midi map in Live it works flawlessly like a button should .. i couldn't find anything in the docs or online that explains this behavior ... what am i missing ?

the answer is in toggle or momentary behaviour of the midicontroller.
Which midicontroller are you using?, you could be able to change the behaviour of the buttons.

i've tried my Lemur, Oxygen49, PCR-500 and a monome ... all exibit the same behavior .. if i take the same midi controller/knob and just map it to for example the Speaker On it works without problem.

The buttons are sending the values 0 for off and 127 for on

the record arm button behaves different from the speakerbutton, can you try sending 0 for on and 0 for off (or 127 for on and 127 for off) and see what happens?
I use a Korg nanokontrol to toggle the recordarm button. The korgkontrol editorsoftware allows me to set the behaviour of each button (toggle or momentary, and the on- and off-values).
I'm not in my studio at the moment but I know that the recordarmbutton requires a different setting from the speakerbutton.

so i finally figured it out from a post in the lemur forum:

to get the arm button to work you have to send the values 64 and 127 not 0 and 127 or the same value

again i ask: why oh why ??? why on earth does the arm button behave differently than other buttons in live ?
