Hello, I hope I'm not sounding too naive but if you're planning to DJ with Ableton I suppose you're going to use ripped wav's or mp3's. But what about copyright then. I mean, if you're DJ-ing with vinyl or cd's you actually purchased them but what proof is there when you're using Ableton with wav's or mp3's... I've bought some mp3's via bleep.com but I cannot see any difference with eh... not so legal mp3's. Just curious. Cheerz. Bernard

If I 'DJ' at all it is generally my own music.
It's just a different way of letting people hear it, also I like to soundclash my own stuff together in a simplistic way.
Most people on here are producers so I suspect in the main they are doing a similar thing.
Anyway - making a copy of a CD or Vinyl of a CD you own is 'fair use' for DJing purposes , if you made an MP3 off someones CD and sold it to someone or possibly gave out billions of someone elses track on the net ... that would infringe copyright.
But public performance of a single copy of a track you bought is OK , just dont expect to sell mix CDs of it!

When downloading legit MP3's they are often 320k.... Lots better than
some downloaded MP3 encoded by a fool.
Why not go the extra step and do the right thing by the artist tho.....
Give the venue a list of the tunes you played and have them put it in their
paperwork for the royalty organisation in your country. This way the obscure
artists get paid, rather than Elton John, and Elvis.
Personally I wouldn't give a shit who downloaded my music as long as when
they played it I got the royalties.
