CPU at ~65% = audio playback only with blips & blops?

Post by tobimusic » Wed Dec 21, 2011 3:59 pm

Hello!

I am using Live for some time now and I am still really satisfied. With the time, my projects got bigger and bigger because I got better at producing music with Live. The problem I run into now is that as soon as I activate one plugin (that is known to be a CPU-Monster btw ;) ), the playback is full of crackling! If the CPU would be at nearly 100% I would understand that, but it's only at about 65% usage, so I see no point why it's already crackling.
I mainly use the native Live plugins except one EQ, one compressor, one Reverb and a CPU heavy mastering Plugin on the master. I only run Live when making music, so there are no other programs eating CPU. I own a MacBook Pro with 2,3 GHz i5 and 4 GB RAM. I also use an external audio interface.
Is it normal that the audio playback is full of crackles and blops? Or do I have to configure something better? Is there any way to optimize the settings?

It would be a good idea to not use your mastering plug-in all the time.
