I would seriously recommend splicing up loops and using the single hits that you get out of them, or heading to freesound.org and grabbing some of the sample their users have uploaded to there. Or grabbing a mic and recording some sounds you can make by banging things together and getting your samples that Way. At least you have no copyright infringement when you record your own. I am always terrified when using samples that have been made by other people, that I will get "caught out" when using other people loops or samples. I use a lot of sample packs when writing a tune, but when I hear samples that I recognise from a sample pack, it kind of ruins the track for me. As though, "oh, you didn't reallllly make the full thing yourself", so I am a bit hypocritical in that sense, but meh, we do what we can to make Good songs.
Using other peoples samples or hits has become a huge worry to me when Working on a track, but this is the world we live in... sue this, sue that
