unable to connect my audio device to my computer. (sp 303)

I am not sure if maybe it s something with my actual 303 that is not functioning right or Im not properly configuring my i/o or whatever it s called. My 303 was working fine when i plugged in to my computer for the first time. I went to preferences and for my audio input device i selected "microphone" and for my output device I selected "speakers". I plugged in my sp 303 in the "out" going to the mic in thing on the computer. Once I armed an audio track ,no sound was coming from it. What could I possibly doing wrong? Im running windows vista if that is significant. What should I be changing in the i/o section? Is it ableton thats not picking it up ? or just my computer in general? Really appreciate any feedback from this. Thank you guys.
