Hi, not sure this is in the correct section but I thought I'd try & give it a go.
I noticed when custom mapping midi effects per device to the 8 knobs in device control, after making these changes when I select another effect on the same track the a device knob sometimes still affects a parameter of the previous effect which is no longer selected, or sometimes the knob affects two parameters from two different effect racks at once. How do I isolate the midi knobs to ONLY affect the parameters of the currently active effect and nothing else? (i.e. the current effect I have selected)
Please let me know if you need more clarification, any help is appreciated.

When you Assign the knobs to anything, they are limited and specifically hard assigned to controlling that parameter, no matter where or what you do.
By default, the APC has a blue hand control which automatically gives you control of certain parameters of each device. They are already pre-designated.
If you would like access to specific parameters, you can wrap a device into a Rack (ctrl+g). And then right click any of the parameters of the device, to assign them to macros on that Rack. Now any time that Rack is selected, you will have instant control of those 8 knobs

Thanks for the response! I am barely familiarizing myself with the macros. I am not with my APC40 at the moment but I do have a question.
Are the macros better to use than just "hard assigning" midi controls, i.e. when I use macros and choose a device the knobs will only affect parameters on that device? When you say they are "limited and specifically hard assigned" does that mean they will ALWAYS affect their hard assigned effect parameters and create dual controls? So will using macros get rid of this unwanted dual control of two parameters on different effects?
I could probably figure this out by trial and error but I'm away from the desk and a little antsy to find out.. prob too much coffee

I'd say, load up an EQ3 and an auto filter in a channel and play with what you can and can't do. I suggest those because the pre-assigned parameters are so obvious. First try them with no assignments. Whichever one you select affects the state of the knobs on your APC. Next, instead of moving your knobs, use the mouse to adjust parameters on screen to see how they influence the knobs. The APC has left and right for selecting between the two effects.
Next, try assigning Hi on the EQ to the first knob. Assign Freq from filter o the first knob. You will see that when you turn the knob, it will move both at once. Not fun. Go back into midi map mode, delete those assignments.
Group EQ3 into a Rack. Right click lo mid hi, assigning them to macros 1, 2, 3. Group Auto Filter. Assign Freq, Q, and lfo amount to 1, 2, 3. Now minimize the racks so you just see the knobs. When you bounce between the Racks, you gain instant access to the knobs which control the parameters you chose.
Lastly! Add an EQ3 and Auto Filter next to each other. Highlight both title bars and group them together. Assign lo mid hi to 123, and freq, q, lfo amount to 567. Now you have a handy rack that controls both at once
