Do I really need ableton for my launchpad?

Post by DMars79 » Mon Dec 26, 2011 11:52 pm

I only bought the launch pad so I can loop instrumentals created on my Roland synth and guitar. I really have no need for ableton seeing how I can't get sound out of it any way. So I have a idea that I need some ideas and opinions on.

I was thinking of using this 10 port USB hub to plug the launch pad, synth and guitar (and speakers if I can) can I link them through this hub through the USB hub?

You realize the launch pad doesn't do audio, right? Only midi.

Without software (like Ableton), your launchpad is just a piece of plastic with some flashy lights. It won't work for the same reason that plugging a computer keyboard directly into a printer won't allow you to type up documents.

AFAIK, the launchpad isn't even class-compliant (it requires software running on your PC to send MIDI on it's behalf).

Why can't things just be easy in this world. I have ableton but the sound doesnt work so I pretty much just wasted $145 on something that requires so much crap.

There are many things that aren't easy in this world, but setting up a launchpad in Ableton (on a mac) shouldn't be one of them.
You haven't been specific with what you have and haven't done so I suggest reinstalling everything, making sure you're installing all the latest updates for everything from the respective websites.

The only problem I am having is getting sound out of my MacBook when I plugging in the launchpad. It works but there is no sound.

I don't think that is the only problem.. Can your MacBook play music in iTunes? If yes, then you have no real issue that reading a manual can't fix. There is no reason that things shouldn't work, you don't need anything in additional to what you have aside from a basic understanding of computers, digital audio and MIDI
