I've used Logitech Thumb trackballs for almost 4 years now and haven't had any problems. I think I may try the Kensington though it looks nice. I love my Thumb trackball though. I even play First Person Shooters well with it.

Best consumer trackball ever: Logitech Trackman Marble FX. Unfortunately no longer available (except used; there are a few on eBay).

OK! after following this thread carefully and reading about the good reviews of the Kensington trackball, i gave in and got myself one.

In the first few hours that i'v been using it, i'm struggling!! now i am jus starting to feel bad about spending 100$ on this!

However i must add that this is my first attempt at trackballs, so lets see if i settle down with this after a few days or i jus end up trashing it!

TeeJay, don't worry, its a whole new technique that will become second nature, prolly in a few days at most. You had to learn to get fast on a mouse well this is no different, your mind is just currently thinking faster than your hand...

hang in there ya wont be sorry!

I've got first hadn experience of getting used to a Kensington Trackball in the the last month. I use a laptop to produce, and DJ, and decided to get a trackball thinking it would be handy for playing live with. Then when I reeived it in the post changed my mind over this as it's a bulky swine...
Unsure at the moment, but here's my experience at using it...

Initially, I didn't like it one little bit, but because of some pian in the wrist from "mousing" for at least 8 hours a day, everyday, I decided to stick with it. So, I went away for the weekend, laptop in tow, but left the mouse at home, to force me to use the trackball. On the monday, I plug in the mouse, and lo and behold, I can't use it!!! I got so used to the trackball I wanted to keep it in. So, there you go - all it took was 2days!

Bit of advice though. play around with the settings of the trackball - ie pointer speed acceleration etc. This'll help you to adjust, and can hone your accuracy a bit.

I use a Razer Boomslang mouse, one of those gamer affairs. The trick is that you can change the resolution by pressing one button while moving the scrollwheel. This is meant for sniping in 3d shooters but it comes in realy handy with getting those envelopes in exactly the right place.
