Crackling/Popping during playback!

Post by Funklestiltskin » Thu Dec 29, 2011 5:34 am

Hey everyone,

I'm writing electronic music, using midi and some audio clips only. I don't have to much going on in the track yet and already there is a lot of crackling/popping when I'm listening back. Im on a Macbook Pro with 8gb of RAM and using an mbox 2 for an interface. My latency settings are all the way up (ive tried down as well, still same thing).

The strange thing is that I can remedy the problem temporarily (for a few minutes or more) by disabling the audio interface by clicking on the CPU Load Meter in the top right and then clicking again to turn it back on. I'm getting the same problem when just playing itunes/youtube audio too, although not as persistant. Is this an ableton problem or could it be my mbox2? I checked to make sure its not my new monitors (krk rokit 6's :D ) and its coming out my fones distorted as well, so its not that.

Any help would be much appreciated. I can deal with it for now, but its driving me fuckin crazy! :o
Peace

thanks for the reply, but i think I just figured it out. I took it straight out of the headphone jack on the macbook and no crackles....so looks like its the mbox :/

nothing to do with ableton, but if anyone can give me some insight id appreciate it - I just got those rokit 6's and have been running those through the mbox. I didn't notice a problem prior to hooking these up, using my old m-audio av40's... Could the rockits be too much for the mbox to handle, even though they each power themselves? Any ideas? Thx
