Phase inverting with default Ableton plugs?
Phase inverting with default Ableton plugs?
I'm trying to invert the phase of Left and Right and add them together so i only get the center of the mix.
I have tried to find a way to do it with the default Ableton plug-ins and failed. Could anyone help me towards doing this please?
Thank you
Freddie

set the Width to zero.
(set it to full and you only get the hard panned material.)

Great, thank you.
I've been messing around with the plugin and i'm finding it hard to mute the audio that's not dead centre.
How would i do that?
I'm messing with the gain control right, but as far as i can understand that's before the other parameters on the plugin?

Re: Phase inverting with default Ableton plugs?
That's the thing with Width on Utility, it doesn't turn down the Side, it just folds it to center:/ (right?)
Try using EQ and set it to M/S mode, with S selected set a knob to roll off as much hi or low as possible and see how that works.../?

Thanks for the advice there.shadx312 wrote:That's the thing with Width on Utility, it doesn't turn down the Side, it just folds it to center:/ (right?)

I have tried this and it looks like it's doing its job but there's only a slight audible difference to the audio.
What i'm trying to do is extract as best as i can an accapella from a song in a live scenario. For example, i dj with a friend at a local club and had a cool idea to take the song playing, loop a part with vocals and then extract the vocals from the other audio as best i can by muting the sides and eq'ing. Everything else i can do except the latter.
Would anyone know a better way to achieve this? Using plug-ins that will run good live i.e not take up an insane amount of cpu space etc. (I haven't much knowledge with extracting an acapella from a vocal)
Re: Phase inverting with default Ableton plugs?
The inherent problem with the phase inversion approach is that you always get some bleed of things you probably don't want. It's still the simplest approach to isolate centered vocals.
