I still can't decide on whether or not that gif is real... I mean the spider crawling looks quite fake, but it could just be an artifact from the gif.

funny how people still say that.... we do have the nastiest one - the Sydney funnel web - which are truly horrible things, but I haven't really seen one of them outside of a museum.... they aren't really that common in built up areas.

huntsmen are quite big and you will find them even in the coldest parts of Oz, but they aren't really dangerous. They look a bit like the one in this GIF. I think their bite can hurt a bit, but I don't know anyone who's been bitten and they aren't poisonous.

Up in the far north they do have proper tarantulas, like bird eating spiders, but they have them in the tropics anywhere and that's thousands of kms away. Everything is big in the tropics - I reckon if you went down to the Florida everglades or something you'd find some pretty big bastards.
