Question about EQ Eight Interface

Post by nate073 » Sun Jan 01, 2012 9:27 pm

Just curious about the interface for the EQ Eight. What is the reason for staggering the vertical lines like that, along the frequencies? What does it mean for the frequencies whose lines are closer together?

Look at the range from the left end to the middle. And the. From the middle to the right. The right side will be much more broad. In Hz, our perceived frequency range can change dramatically at the lower end. It is like donuts. You have 5, or you have 6. That will definitely feel different after eating one or the other. If you can stuff awa 5,000 donuts, chances are, 6,000 donuts isn't a huge difference.

This "staggering" is called logharitmic scaling, and is adjusted to our way of hearing, like yur2die4 explained in his very tasty example.
It just means it is easier to set up the EQ. If it would be linear scaled (no "staggered" lines), you would have a hard time adjusting the lower frequencies!
My English is not perfect, I know... Sorry about that.

Greetings from Germany!

P.S. to wishlist forum users: Please search for former requests. Otherwise they will be splitted into many small ones and we are loosing impact!!!
