Reaktor 5 is the greatest thing i've ever seen

Are you on PC or Mac? I have seen a lot of complaints about Reaktor on Mac.

I'm on PC and the only problems I've had with Reaktor 4 and Live are closing a set without shutting off Reaktor first.

Ordered my upgrade to 5 this morning

but...there may still be bugs ive never come across yet. im just happy r5 works reasonably now.

Are you talking about Reaktor 5? No bugs, whatsoever! Reaktor 5 works like a charm!

I usually steer clear of apps where you build your own instruments. This is because when I first started messing around with sampling and sequencing I spent 2 weeks making a drum kit from my tabla and some other percussion. I realized how tweaky I could get and that would take me away from composing. I mean how could any normal person really get that much out of 2 weeks of messing with percussion samples? I felt silly.

I used Reaktor once and didn't get it. I started building my own sounds and it was cool but it wasn't making music, just sounds.

Then just this weekend I was at a show and a couple of friends started talking about it and how it was the end all be all of sound design. My skeptisism was lessened when they started talking about the ensembles.

Being more curious about it I installed 4 and loaded up an ensemble. I tried the vocoder through Live with my microphone. Wow. Then I loaded up a couple of its synths. Oh my gawd!

I am completely sold. I am getting 5 no matter what it takes. I'm going to start collecting bottles to return until I can afford it!

Check if your eligable for the academic version. It's about half price. Or get Reaktor sessions - then upgrade before the end of August. That would also come in cheaper than going straight for R5.

Err. Well. Mate. Unlike the people at Computer Music, I a) actually know how to operate a computer and b) have actually used Reaktor before writing a review of it.

Mate. Additive synthesis means the ability to mix two or more oscillators together. Reaktor might not excel at it (in that I know my computer probably won't be able to run the 500+ sine wave oscs of, say, a Kawai synth, but then my computer's pretty shit) but yes, Reaktor can add sound waves together. The fact that CM claim otherwise is just yet another example of what a bunch of fucking tossers write that mag...

In all fairness they said REsynthesis which (AFAIK) is that you break down an existing sound/waveform into it's partials via a FFT and then resynthesizes it with a lot of sine wave generators. Chamelon does that and also Virsyn Cube.

That's something else entirely... It will do granular resynthesis, but not FFT.
