each kit is made up of 4/5 tracks, one for each trigger on the kit. The tracks are a single drum rack with one sample in the whole rack, plus any effects on that sample. usually one for 1) kick, 2) snare 1, 3) snare 2, 4) hi hat, and sometimes 5) tom trigger.

you can see from this shat that kit number 4 is armed.

now that there are 12 kits for 12 tunes in the set... these obviosly take up the most space... I could fit all the samples for one or even all 12 kits on one drum rack, then scroll through the kits using the grey square, but this is fiddly and you can't key/midi map the square. having each samples on each rack also means i can send each individual kick, snare, snare 2 etc to a master 'ALL kick', 'ALL snare', 'ALL snare 2' out... shown on the right... these can then be routed to a seperate channel on the interface so the engineer has total control over each trigger like with the normal drums.
Why don't you use one drumrack for each track? You still can put effects on selected drum tracks (even sends). And then put all the drumracks in a single instrument rack. Then select the chain select editor. Spread the racks even and map the chain selector to a midi knob on your controller or automate its selection via midi clips.

Rabalder, that shit was AWESOME. At 7:38 it goes from really good to really great. I sure wish I knew a drummer like you to play music with.

are you sure you can send individual samples to separate outputs within a drumrack or instrument rack?? pretty sure I tried to do this with the chain select editor ('audio to' box) and found loads of complaints about it not being possible. ... I'm still on Version 7 tho... am I missing something major without 8?

I might be wrong but are you talking about sending EACH WHOLE KIT to a different single channel?.. and then changing kits and channels ....My issue is sending all the individual samples to individual outputs for the engineer.

any chance of a screen grab?

See how I put the compressor past the bassdrum and inserted a return chain for the reverb. Now a send knob appears for every drum channel.

Here I mapped the chain selector to a macro knob.

I don't know if this all works in Live 7, but the upgrades are still reduced until 15.1.

And you are right - different audio outs are not possible with drumracks in Live 8. NI Battery for instance could do this.

@Mothergarage... mate, thanks so much...

doesn't entirely solve the problem but none the less it's a cool space saver so i'll definitely have a play around, thankyou.

I have a demo version of battery which I'm pretty sure you can run within ableton as a vst no?

looking at this I'm now also wondering if I can use some kind of follow action within a drum rack to maybe make the kit change as the set goes on automatically... hmm...

will keep you posted.

thanks again.

P.S. ... YO! ABLETON! .... sort out the 'AUDIO TO' box pleeeeeeaaasseeee. xxxx

Hey John!

Just "discovered" a way to get different hardware outs for drumracks.

Look here!
