Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
Re: Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
if it's really made, please make a novation SL support too. I really can't explain how badly I wish we would be able to switch it to the bottom row of knobs for macros.... grrr

I don't understand this. What can you not do anymore with automap 4?Goddard wrote:Automap Pro 3.7.4 is the answer... Forget Automap 4.
I don't know if it's the same download since they removed "Pro" and made it freeware.
Automap Pro wasn't for free, but still works excellent, mapping almost all parameters in Live, Logic, Reason and NI Komplete instruments by itself. It's also possible to easy map different parameters to the touch pad (it wasn't possible in ordinary, free version of Automap...).
Automap 4 is just a joke in comparison...

well...ehm.. if I may..
I have good news for you...
on my sl25(mkI)
the lower 8 encoders are CC #8-15..
the lower 8 buttons are CC 32-39..
so...
modifying a userconfiguration
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/639447/SL_xtra_Knobs.zip
in short..unzip this file copy the folder to your 'User Remote Scripts' folder ..
open Live... go to the prefs.. Midi...'control surfaces'..
the script name should appear at the bottom..
choose it.. select the sl ports (like in the regular script)
voila..
the 8 knobs function as an extra device control..
the leftmost buttons are mapped to 'bank up/down'.. and the rightmost button is mapped to 'lock device to controller'
if the CCs aren't the same as on the SLmkI .. you simply need to edit the file to make it match ..

Re: Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
I used to be very annoyed about Automap that I got for free together with Remote SL.
Later on (mainly to map touchpad...) I purchased (upgraded to...) Automap Pro.
It was much better than free version, but not as good as their latest Pro release, Automap Pro 3.7.4.
I upgraded from SL to SL Mk2 and integration between hardware and software became seemless.
Of course I had to configure properly all my DAWs following Novation's user manual, but it was the only thing to do. I've never had to map any parameter. The only thing that is not mapped by default is the touchpad, but assigning required parameter is easy - just browse it from the list. You can even by default (in Logic and Reason...) change presets directly from your SL Mk2 without using the mouse... All this is possible in Automap Pro 3.7.4 (version that shows that it is licensed to you on the start up...).
In my naivity I "upgraded" to Automap 4 (there's no Pro anymore available...).
I was devastated. It couldn't map any parameter by default. I uninstalled it (even worse story - had to reinstall the whole MacOS...) and happily use Automap Pro 3.7.4 that I luckily registered at Novation (required to license validation...).
Greetings.

yep.. after 30 minutes with Automap4 .. I was back to v3...

Re: Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
yeah I agree.. except for the GUI and the bugs.. and the removal of the PRO (word).. it's exactly the same..glitchrock-buddha wrote:I don't understand this. What can you not do anymore with automap 4?Goddard wrote:Automap Pro 3.7.4 is the answer... Forget Automap 4.

I like 4 best. Haven't encountered sever bugs anymore. And now they put the automap version alongside the vst rather than in the user directory. I used to move there anyways because it makes them interchangeable and work with old projects. I imagine others who didn't know this trick must be thrilled now.

Automap has always confused the shit out of me. Sometimes I wonder what I am missing, open it up and then realize it's still strange to me.

so you're saying this does the aforementioned switch of using the bottom knobs on macros instead of upper knobs? That would be awesome!3dot... wrote:well...ehm.. if I may..

Re: Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
nope... it adds an additional 'device controller' (like the 8 upper knobs..).. another 'blue hand'...

Re: Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
it's really rather simple..JuanSOLO wrote:Automap has always confused the shit out of me. Sometimes I wonder what I am missing, open it up and then realize it's still strange to me.
it allows you to save custom mappings for vsts..
then it auto-loads them when the plugin is dragged into the project..
in addition to that.. you can have 16 channels(all with multiple 'pages')
that can be used as 'regular midi controllers'..
since each is on a different channel it's great for lives' native midi learn..
more over and most importantly.. it has midi to keyboard-stroke..
which is very good..(especially for the ipad..)

Re: Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
hmm. well I've tried the first version that was out...and it was horrible..glitchrock-buddha wrote:I like 4 best. Haven't encountered sever bugs anymore. maybe I should try the latest update ?
I just don't see any point.. there's no added functionality..
and building control maps is more cumbersome imo..
also..(with 'windows'.. )
the automap version was always alongside the dlls..

However, I cannot figure out why the script does not work for me...
I setup the "SL Xtra Knobs Script" like the "Remote SL sctipt" in Live, and my knobs on SL MKII are sending are sending CC# 8-15 on channel 1.
Any idea about what I might be doing wrong?

Re: Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
Hmm, the "RemoteSL 20 Script" does not work for me as well... That's strange (right?)
Re: Novation SL Mkii - useless knobs? Python script?
ok..try this..
edit in your live template on the sl...change the lower knobs/buttons..
so instead of 'comnPort' they go to 'usb1'..
then in the prefs selsct 'RemoteSL port1' for the "xtra script"
