Is there a pre-roll function for looper?
Is there a pre-roll function for looper?
I would like to set up a 2 bar pre roll before I record my loop while the session is playing, is this possible?
Re: Is there a pre-roll function for looper?
What I'm trying to do is create loops on the fly in session view while the clips are playing. I have tried to adjust the quantization in looper but it doesn't operate the same as it would if I were adjusting the launching parameters of a clip. If I had a predictable pre-roll I would be able to use this for live performance. Does anybody use ableton looper for live performance? I'm reading a lot of user frustration with controlling the parameters of this plugin. I'm familiar with launching clips, I'm just confused why launching looper is more difficult?

Two things:
One, to do something of that nature, it would be very possible to simply create an channel that has audio routed to a channel specifically for cueing. You could then put anything in there. I mean, if you are working to figure out the tempo before it plays, why not have it playing silently, work your mojo, then activate looper or audible clips at the next scene?
Two, I'd really take some time to patiently familiarize myself with usage of each of the parameters you want to use from Looper. Do this via application. Practice lots and learn what you Can do. And what you Cannot do, given a way you would have something set. Knowing your tools could save you down the road.
Also, I am curious as to what method you use to connect your instrument into Live? Are you using an audio card?
Musically, you have to think like a drummer when using Looper. Always especially being sensitive to the downbeat and number of bars. I think Live prefers even numbered bars. If you're not already tapping your foot when you play, you may want to start. Great for when you have to punch in
