No love for the new Livid CNTRL:R?
Re: No love for the new Livid CNTRL:R?
Well its about safely moving 4 faders with 4 fingers.
And switching fader caps is no big deal. All you need is the caps of desire and very little glue.

Yes, true that.noland wrote:Well its about safely moving 4 faders with 4 fingers.

I emphatically LOVE the design...but cost and out of box abilities are leaving me skeptical. Using an apc at at half the price with hans it script based on the vids I've seen runs circles around this. Unless you need all those knobs for tweeking lots of effects. To me it looks better for a performance controller than a production controller.
Re: No love for the new Livid CNTRL:R?
This is definitely a performance controller. But taking a look at what Livid squeezed out of the OHM64 makes me want to instantely sell my APC. They even made the encoders pick up the controlling parameters of the currently active device. I thought only the APC could do that. Plus you have user defined color LED buttons.skatr2 wrote: To me it looks better for a performance controller than a production controller.

Checking their wiki i'm quite confident Livid will provide comparable user scripts for the cntrlr too.

Re: No love for the new Livid CNTRL:R?
Yeah I imagine the support would be there...just kind of daunting to drop that loot on something new and break out of old molds
Re: No love for the new Livid CNTRL:R?
Yeah me too, i got pretty used to my APC. But seeing this baby reminds me of all the flaws i never really got used to. Mainly not enough encoders for parallel fx tweaking in two or three different tracks.
Livid already announced a script with 4 different control layers.

(OMG Hope my girlfriend never reads this post or she will smite me down with some serious talking)

The thing about this controller vs. the APC40, is if you are into configuring your controller, OR learning how too, you dont have the stumbling blocks the APC40 does.
This controller is new, but in the future we will most likely see remote scripts that do things that we may never see for the APC40. One example would be to have a sequencer that also has a running light on the encoders allowing for velocity, pitch, sends or whatever else, for each button pressed note.
I see production and performance becoming as ONE, with this CNTRL:R, with less workarounds and simpler learning curve on the remote scripts or M4L patching angle.
HOWEVER, who knows whats in store for Live 9. IF they produce a more in depth midi editor bypassing the need for remote scripting knowledge, things will be different.

Re: No love for the new Livid CNTRL:R?
I dont want to sound as if I am knocking Hanz's script, I love it, I am ultra greatful, and I donated 30 bucks to him for it long ago. Not only that, but Hanz provided AWEOME amounts of info on his blog. However, I feel like after all this time, and in relation to other things like Mark Egloffs sequencer patch, OR NativeKontrols APC templates, Hanz's script could be reworked into something much more user friendly. That said, it's REALLY tough to learn remote scripting for the APC40, as well as write sequencer/mode patches in M4L for the APC40. It's a daunting task and hence you dont see more of them.
I feel like I could get CNTRL:R and get it doing exactly what I want in a month, as opposed to years and not much results.

I like the layout alot - waiting for more information to come about customizing it for my own needs. At that point I may have the extra funds to dig into it with M4L. Until then...

I like the layout a lot too, and would be a killer controller for the m4l device I'm building at the moment (http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=184753).
But why does Livid Instruments provide only MIDI protocol and no OSC ... When you have tasted a little of OSC, MIDI seems so unpractical for some customization IMO.
