Drum Machine Trigger Pad Stops Another?

Post by jestermgee » Mon Jan 09, 2012 11:25 am

Since I received the Suite box and have checked out some of the nice drum kits that are included I have noticed when many "live sampled" kits use an open hat on 1 pad and a closed hat on another, if I trigger an open hat then hit the closed hat pad it will cut the open hat sample off (as you would actually hear when closing the hat on a real kit).

I haven't found how to achieve this trick of triggering a pad to silence the sound of another pad. Any ideas?

It is called "choke group". That should set you in the right direction :)

Awesome, thanks for that.

I have been trying to de-construct the Suite kits which actually work quite well (took me days to construct similar kits years ago using Halion 1). I got a bit lost because they appear to use a multi-sample SIMPLER (not sampler) which you cannot access or modify (Ableton programmers can only create these). So a lot of the magic is hidden.

Right-click the title bar of a Sampler or Simpler to convert to the other ;)

Edit: bonus tip, if you use Operator, on all the oscillators for the amp envelope page. On the bottom left for looping. There is a "one-shot" which relieves a lot of frustration for the decay and sustain of percussion in Drum Racks. Not sure if Sampler has a similar option.
