Looping on time consistently

Post by Giacomo17 » Fri Dec 30, 2011 2:33 am

Hi folks. New guy here. I've been having a helluva time trying to get Ableton's Looper to loop on time consistently. Sometimes it loops my first layer very nicely, with tight timing. But other times it's off. And those aren't really odds I'd like to rely upon during live performance.

I have my song control set to "start and stop song"
Quantization is set to "global"
length is set to "x bars"
using an FCB1010 foot controller.

Thanks a lot for the input everybody,
G

I don't know that this will answer your question but try switching your quantization from Global to None. I am constantly starting samples that have to be timed to a human playing an instrument like guitar or bass or whatever. For the longest time I would tap the tempo correctly but the samples would never fall exactly where I wanted. I realized that as soon as you begin tapping a tempo your internal clock starts running as well in Live and what you perceive to be the next 1 to be may not be exactly what Live is counting. Therefore your samples won't always come in when you'd like them to.

Switching the quantization to None will absolutely allow you to drop things on the 1 in time if you have any sort of internal rhythm and time counting abilities as a musician.

The last bit I would say is that only use this quantization suggestion for times when you need to start a sample in time with something else not linked to Live's internal clock.

I hope that helps.
