I almost bought Logic Pro
Re: I almost bought Logic Pro
haha perfectly sound reasoning my friend!
also if you don't have a convolution reverb i've always heard space designer is worth the price of Logic when it was 400 dollars.
I really should buy Logic but I bought a new mic, and logic doesn't make you sing any better. Granted, maybe there's an auto-tune thing in logic... i have melodyne but i'm too lazy to go and properly tune ever take. I just want a gentle push in the right direction, and then I'll properly tune my final take. I do love talking about myself!

You absolutely did the right thing. The only reason to buy a new DAW is because you need a new DAW. Doesn't make any difference what the price is. It's not like buying Logic just gives you new tools and plugins to use in your current workflow; quite to the contrary, it (if used) changes your entire workflow, and quite possibly in ways that you won't like, or that are, more importantly, just totally unnecessary.
I got logic bundled (though for some hundreds of dollars) with my iMac. I never use it. I tried to, stopped, tried again to, stopped. All that time, I was using Ableton full time. There is no rewire / AIC / whatever hookup that wasn't a complete workflow destroyer. It was a waste of time and money, so it goes. Wish I woulda taken your route.

I don’t know if I agree with that. Working in a new DAW can be just as refreshing and inspiring as starting a new job or moving to a new city when your life is stagnating or in a rut. You’re still you, your music is still your music, but it’s a new environment with different options to explore.
Re: I almost bought Logic Pro
Totally true.
I'm not buying logic I'm moving to a new city. Logic would be cheaper though...

I’ve been avoiding trying to use Ultra Beat because the UI is quite hideous, cramped, and daunting looking (like all of Logic's instruments) but last night I watched a tutorial series on it, and damn, it’s way powerful and a lot of the features on the UI I can just ignore. I’ve bought drum plug-ins that were around $200 and not as powerful.
One of my favorite features is having the option to trigger different patterns using keys on a keyboard and you can even retrigger or switch patterns mid bar and it will stay in time with the track. Sort of like firing clips I suppose but it feels smoother, at least to me.
The main thing I saw missing was the ability to hot swap samples. Hopefully they’ll add that in the next version.

Re: I almost bought Logic Pro
i am logic user und sometimes ableton...
the music i make is different in live and logic. it's more experimental in live and more composed and arranged in logic. a bit like writing one song with a guitar and one song on a piano. both takes time, both is work, both is fun. but it's different. if you like fresh air from time to time try it. the value is incredible and the sounds and plugins coming wih it are on a much higher level than in live suite, exept a few...

Re: I almost bought Logic Pro
I bought logic because it was cheap and i thought I might like to use the included effects and instruments.
It crashed a lot and the effects and instruments had horrible UI with tiny little knobs. Never opened it again.
I should probably sell it or something.

Re: I almost bought Logic Pro
its good or better than live for mastering and compiling albums. And for mixes with sample precise automation.. you can use dedicated controlers with motor faders and export and import protools projects.
So its not all useless..

Apple develops after Steve in the strange direction. They don't want to be manufacturer of the professional tools anymore. If the next generation of Logic Pro bundle (Studio) going to be as "outstanding" as their recent Final Cut update (Final Cut X) then it's a last chance to purchase it.
Especially considering the bargain price.
I really do like Ableton Live, but I don't get why it should limit me.
I've heard that Soundtrack (included in Logic Studio) has already been discontinued.
If you're a Intel Mac user than don't hesitate. Go for it!
And don't fotget that monogamy is against nature

Re: I almost bought Logic Pro
It was easy for me to pass this up. I was lacking the proprietary hardware called Mac to use it. That is the only thing keeping me from using Logic.
