name parameters in midi out CC clip automation.

Hey, I'm setting up a template for my hardware. I'd like to name the CC messages in the clip automation so it is a description of the parameter rather than simply a CC number.
Is there some trick or workaround to achieve this.
I know I can do it in M4L (I did it for another piece of hardware which used NRPN's) but I'd really like to save myself the typing, AND the CPU.
