MPD26 and APC20 Mapping Conflict

Post by AndyPointO » Tue Apr 05, 2011 5:39 am

Hello! I've been working with Live for about a week now, along with an MPD26. Until today, I have had no issues that I couldn't solve myself. However, this one has me stumped.

I bought an Akai APC20 today ($50 new), and noticed some mapping overlaps with my MPD. For instance, if I map my pad bank A on my MPD to a 4x4 grid on Live, the activator button for Track 1 fails no longer serves its function. Instead, it plays the clip in Track 3, Scene 1.

I tried remapping the Activator key, and now it does indeed activate Track 1, in addition to playing the same clip as before. Furthermore, the Activator key on the pad stays unlit regardless of the software's status. This same problem is present on the two keys below this activator key (Solo/Cue and Record Arm) and the Master Fader.

Is there any quick and easy fix to this? The APC works fine without the MPD, and vice versa. I just want them to be able to play together nicely without any big hassle.

Thanks!

wow, I'm having the same problem trying to use the Launchpad with the LPD8 and the MDP24. It's driving me crazy! If I MIDI map some clips to one of the controllers all the sudden clips on the launchpad just disappear and I'll get clips playing on the rows too. WTF??????

I got the same problem... Has anyone found any solutions yet??? I have tried to change the presets, reset it to factory settings and even tried editing and deleting the pad that is mapped, but is permanently stuck!

Help!

It's an issue that can be a pain to solve in cases. When using more than 1 MIDI controller it's easy to get conflicts. Best thing to start to do is figure out what channels each controller transmits on and try and change the ones that can be changed. Things like the APC and Launchpad can't be changed. But the MPD can be changed and may require the editor software to just change the MIDI port it is using.

Optionally, you can look at a program such as BOME MIDI Translator which can change things on the fly. That is a bit of a learning curve though and to do it properly you need the purchased version so I would look at changing the MIDI channels first. A bit og googling should get you the channels in use.

I checked my MPD26 CD... where can I find that editor software??? Also I'm connecting via USB and not using any Midi ports...

Thanks

Yeah it's not on the CD... Check the Akai website. You can edit the controls in the MPD with the menu but that would take ages. And yep, I'm talking about connection via USB.

The Editor software is actually the same Vyzex Editor software on the CD... I read through the manuals and I can see that you can change the presets, ports and notes...which I already tried to change... but there is no option to disable that particular pad from playing a clip in Ableton...
