previewing instruments

so i read a few post and they all refered to the MIDI editor and some waveforms and something about a headphones icon. how do you get this MIDI editor to come up in the first place because i can't seem to find it. thanks.

How do you mean Previewing?

Are you looking to preview how different instruments sound using a specific pattern?

Are you looking to play an instrument live and be able to preview how it sounds?

Are you intending to hear sounds in the midi editor while drawing notes in?

Please select only the one you originally intended to do. If you want to learn the others you can ask after haha

You have to have a midi clip in a midi track and you click or double click on the clip to show the piano roll. In the upper left is the headphone icon which lets you preview.

And I think it's CMD/CTRL + SHIFT + TAB that toggles between device/effect view and audio/midi clip view at the bottom 3rd of the screen.
