Room treatment is important. I put up some 2 foot by 6 foot fiberglass panels and it made so much difference. But then, there's only so much you can do to a bedroom in a home, you know?
Indeed.
Room treatment doesn't have to be fully elaborate though. Just knowing where to place some treatment as a start some defusers around the positions of the monitors (QRD\Skyline or just foam) and some bass traps in the room corners and if possible above and behind monitors is about all that is needed for a start.

There isn't anything wrong with the Adam A7's, I've had them for a couple of years now and they have done me proud.

Thought I'd throw Genelec 8030A's in the mix - I find them to be very honest.

I also vote for the Yamahas, not so expensive honest monitors, and they adjustment panel on the back can help in an untreated room.

I just read that it would be much favorable to get the A7X over the A7, if you're going with that brand.
Not saying there's anything wrong with the A7, just that the revision might be
even better
You know once you've tried listening to that cranked 50 KHz, you can't go on living without. FIFTY. KILO. HERTZ.
If I had a dog, it would probably agree

adams sound great, they're too smooth/coloured in the highs though to be flat
may main monitors are dynaudio bm5a mk2 with mackie hr624mk2 as a second.
my friend has adams and i almost got them, the dyna's somehow translate better to other systems...
"larger than life sound" depends on your room imho

I use the A7's and they provide great detail in the highs. The mids sound great as well and they do have a very precise sound stage but I find that the it often fails to translate well to other speakers. They also have a rather annoying hump at around 200Hz. This all sounds pretty bad but in the $1500 price range that I was buying in I felt that they did the best at showing up problems.
That's my two cents.

I agree.

That's one of the points that I read about in reviews and one of the reason's why I bought them myself. I'm no expert by any means but I'm happy enough. I read an article, about Rusko (dubstep dude), in one of the computer music mags and he uses a pair of KRK Rokit 8's when he's putting together a track but then uses the Adam A7's for mixdown. It was just interesting to read.

recently i have swaped my trusty mackie mr5 with focal cms50's. great overall tone and balance and fantastic stereo field. it took them couple of hours first to bring the right sound (when you try them right out from the box they sound really harsh - it says that in the instruction book). i highly recommend them (of course it depends on the size of your room, if its big you obviously might need bigger drivers sth like focal cms65).

I'm thinking I might go for the KRK 8s for big sound and impressing clients, then maybe a smaller set of Adams or Genelecs (5s or 3s) for fine-tuning and accuracy.

A little behind, but do you by any chance have the link to that article?
