Getting new desktop computer
Getting new desktop computer
Hey everyone,
I'm looking at this tower so I don't have to tie up my laptop with Live:

Main specs show 6 gig RAM, i3 dual core processor with 3.3 ghz, Win7 64, 12 USB ports... looks like it is way above minimum Ableton specs, but does anyone think I will run out of power with this computer?
Maybe a stupid question but I don't want to buy something that I'll outgrow quickly.
Thanks!
Andy

Forgot to say... My Line6 UX1 interface works great with my laptop. I play guitar into Live and I have lag-free recording. Recommended to get a true ASIO card for a desktop?

Looks okay to me, maybe want to clock the cpu for a bit extra. Pretty much the same spec as mine though I have a first generation i7 core processor clocked to 4.0GHz and it breezes through Live
Re: Getting new desktop computer
I ended up getting an open-box HP tower with a Quad-core AMD processor for $420. 6 gig ram, Wifi, lots of USB's. So far I haven't made the CPU go past 30 or so in Live
Works good so far!

Depends if you want work station or all-around-computer. Why not full custom if option 1? You can put all the money into what you really need so tower, board, cpu, ram and disk space.

*lol*
You can still customise it of course - probably worth looking into quieter fans and soundproofing to keep it's interference to a minimum

Well I've had the AMD 4-core for a few days now and I'm loving it. I'm having no trouble using multiple effects, ReWire, sampling, never a hint of drop-out's or anything. Reason is the only external VST I have right now so I suppose as I add stuff over the months/years it could show its lower-end ugliness. But for now it's not holding me back in any way. Thanks for the responses!
