Ambient Works was the zenith. "Shiney Metal Rods" was the absolute apex. Windowlicker was the beginning of the descent into "shitty uninspired mixes for cash".

Are you serious? Obviously it's subjective, but what about druqks and the analords?

Also he's doing this quiet recently, remote controlled orchestra.

Yeah, I s'pose druqks was ok, but you have to remember something...when Ambient Works hit the scene, it knocked everyone on their ass...nothing before it sounded anything like it. Sure, Tangerine Dream and Eno and everyone else were experimenting and trying to open the door to the other side, but pratically every chunklet on Ambient Works was a masterpiece of minimalistic sonic oblivion....I used to listen to that stuff day and night just contemplating what must've been going instead James' head when he assembled that stuff, not to mention how he did it at the time.

I'm enjoying the Dave Monolith album. It's not RDJ anyway, it's not quiet up there or twisted in the same way. Nice and accessible all the same. What impresses me most is the arrangements and musical structure. A lot of the sounds are 'of the rephlex canon' if you get me rather then being purely experimental.
