Yeah thats what I meant. A peavey will sound better than anything I've been able to come up with using Live's native instruments.

what did you mean here?

i'm assuming you meant no luck, because i haven't heard an emulation yet that is too convincing. when it is, the notes are so simple that you might as well play them on a real guitar because your skill level has to be about a notch up from zero.

yep.

i'd offer to help but i don't play much guitar. i pick around on a bass. i end up playing a guitar like it's a bass - one string at a time. that works for simple accents and such but not much else. still, you gotta love the ability to make a loop. you only have to get it right one time. 8)

Cool tunes bro. In the 33rd measure of body language i think you went ritardando instead of accelerando, of course I state the obvious.

What's interesting about all of this is that I've never heard Ableton actually deny all the criticism about having inferior sound quality. The best they've done is say that the difference is inaudible, the best anyone has done is say the you can't tell. It's hard to not question that.

Most consumers can't tell the difference between an mp3 and a wav file. Does that mean the industry should keep selling an inferior product? Does that make mp3s equal to uncompressed formats? No way.

So like I've said before, at face value they all probably do sound the same - why wouldn't they it's ones and twos. The difference however comes in when plugins are introduced, latency happens, summing and so on. Judging from the major studio neglect and disdain for Ableton you're led to think that that's where the programs weaknesses lie.

Now that may not be a problem for someone producing dubstep instrumentals but for a movie score with hundreds of tracks or a major Katie Perry record to be heard by millions it's a big deal. My curiosity stems from hearing the people at the very top of the music food chain bash Live's audio quality, what is Ableton NOT saying.

Which song does she prefer, Katy Perry or yours?

We like both, but prefer mine a bit. You cant compare, it's not the same style.

But a 1:1 comparison must be made. There are no grey zones or subjectivity. :x

quite a good thread - i was going to do some music this afternoon but started reading it all and now i've just spunked about 2 hours of my life :?

it went off in a few directions, some interesting, some a bit of a car crash

i'm not into katy perry's music at all, though i think if i was given the chance to mix/master her songs it would be a great learning experience. i'm pretty sure i wouldn't crack but i would definitely produce a different end result coloured with my own personal audio tastes. it probably wouldn't be what they would be looking for though

i often enter situations where i think i'm amongst people who know more than me about something and i try and adopt some degree of humility and try and learn from them. i normally come away having learnt something. sometimes i realise that i know more than i do as i've ended up showing them something too

NOW i might go do some tunes.... :)
