Dave Smith Evolver with Ableton 8 problems

Post by tenorjazz » Sat Jan 14, 2012 7:29 am

I'm having a real problem trying to use my Dave Smith Evolver with my Ableton 8.

1. The Evolver is plugged into the D channel of my midisport 4 port midi interface
2. I have an Access Virus, Waldorf Blofled and a Korg MS2000 plugged into the other 3 ports.
3. The midisport is plugged into an Intel iMac, running Snow Leopard, through USB.
4. I'm using Ableton Live 8 with all the latest updates and bring up a brand new session with nothing in it.
5. I have not added any new midi tracks or set up an external instrument or done anything else.
5. I press the Play button at the top of the screen and the Evolver starts making noise.
6. All of the other synths hooked to the midisport just stay quiet, like they are suppose to.

Any idea what might be going on.

I have a video I can post somewhere if you think that might help.

The Evolver responds to MIDI start/stop commands so you are triggering it's sequencer. Change the MIDI clock settings to disable start/stop messages (it's the last option).

If I do that will the Evolver's sequencer still be able to sync with Ableton?

yes but it wont start and stop with ableton, but if you have option to disable start/stop and not clock, the evolver will still get the clock data for the lfo/delays/ec (if available)
