I had the same thought. Take a look to the ableton website: it looks like was almost abandoned.
(looks like the D16 website)
Their 25% discount endend 2 days ago but the banner is still there... and what about the news ? they announced that are looking
for developers. Isn't too late ? and ironic ?

They clearly have a captive audience of thousands of people waiting to drop a couple hundred on Live 9, so they're definitely working on it IMO. But Ableton most certainly do seem more distant, and less motivated than ever. That's the impression I get anyway. I'm sure L9 will be announced in the next couple of months and everyone will be back in love with Ableton, but it will be hard to forget this very long patch of silence.

I do I agree. It will be hard to forget their silence.

Interesting to see Traktor entering Live's territory which Maschine is already in, especially given NI has already let open that Maschine and Traktor are "moving closer together".:

Jens @ NI, 7/21/11: "Traktor and Maschine are in the process of moving closer together, but we are not yet at a point to disclose details about the "when" and "how"."

The will be a huge update to Traktor. Feels like adding Live and Bridge function into a sample deck but in NI style. It will give the control of sample decks with timecode CD or vinyl (check the video at 0:45 look at the reaction of those sample slots).

This is getting Traktor one step closer to being able to control Maschine with timecode. Going from here, to a full Maschine/Traktor integration is not far fetched. This controller is like a mini Maschine for Traktor, and if all the samples can respond to the transport controls and the timecode, it will be a dream come true. Ableton Bridge is fine but you can't backspin and you can't scratch. This will be NI's version of Bridge done the right way.

YEP, another one of those things you see and think, Ableton could have done that, and CHOSE not too. Why in the hell you would put Ableton inside Serato and not make it scratch? Why would you not give users the ability to scratch clips when thats the MAIN feature request. It's another one of those why is there now record automation to session things.

Strange how great and dumb Live is at the same time.

Seriously, I dont think most Ableton users or Ableton themselves realize how much more advanced Traktor has become in this department.
Definitely. I'm using Traktor with a VCM600 controlling 4 decks, 2 other channels used for fx, and a launchpad fully set up with modifiers to work as a Beatfighter / cue point pad seamlessly. I can't even imagine how I'd get Ableton mapped the way I use those controllers in Traktor nowadays. So much fun :D

Predictions:

-When Live 9 is released it is going to blow your fucking mind.
-There will be a thread at least a hundred pages long on the first day.
-There will be people saying "Fuck Ableton they didn't include [esoteric feature]."
-There will be some bitchin integration with SSL.
-There will be some bitchin integration with some weird software that nobody knows much about, but is still rad.
-Many of those who pick up the new Traktor will be like "Aww shoulda waited for Live 9!"

:D

I used to have those hopes. And even if they fail to BRING IT, I will be happy with what I am doing with Live right now for a long while.

whats the big deal with iPads? I mean, I get it, I've tried it, I just dont like it. Not as a controller.

If I could use an I pad just to scroll through presets of synths, maybe, but maybe not.
