At least the extended midi editing feature would fit well with what Ableton want users to test in their testing session in NYC announced on Google Docs a few days ago. We still have to wait for the real announcement, but that does not sound crazy.crystalmsc wrote:some info, I hope this is true:

Don't get me wrong I am excited for Live 9, whenever that might be. There are just so many things wrong with that post that I can't take it seriously.some info, I hope this is true:

Totally agreed. We all want to be optimistic around here, but the Internet Bullshit meter hit High almost right away, reading that..

Yeah, like all the issues you personally iron out to make your copy of Live more stable.
I can't say I'm bothered either way, Since I gained a licence for Max4Live
I also really appreciate that distance that's been covered in DSP the last 8 years or so, 'YOU'VE NEVER HAD IT SO GOOD'
Re: COME ON ABES GIVE US SOMETHING !!!
They just gave us 8.2.7 which apparently includes an improved delay compensation option in preferences. Many people were complaining that something like that should be in Live 9. But instead they gave it to us now & for free in Live 8.
A version number is just a number, just like age is just a number. What's important is the contents...

Delay compensation was not improved, they gave us an extra option which was before only available using options.txt. The default option results in tracks recorded out of sync.
There are threads asking them to change this behavior at least back in 2009.
Re: COME ON ABES GIVE US SOMETHING !!!
so did they change it or not?
Re: COME ON ABES GIVE US SOMETHING !!!
Ok so maybe my wording was not the best. But being able to switch & optimize the delay compensation quickly depending on the task at hand, without having to resort to a .txt file is an improvement, no? And isn't this one of the things people have been asking for?
And it says in the release notes that this (ON) was the default state before:
"When enabled, input-monitored tracks will have the lowest possible latency but may be out of sync with some other tracks in your Set."
So I'm sure many users (including myself) didn't realize they could acheive an improvement in delay compensation at the price of latency with the .txt file.
I realize that they could still work on things like automation compensation but to me this looks like a step in the right direction...

Re: COME ON ABES GIVE US SOMETHING !!!
in 2010 and beyond it's all about editing the text file. GUIs are so last century.
with a join date of 2005 you should know by now that it doesn't matter what they give people... it's not what they expected, how the expected, or when they expected so "ain't it awful".
see thread title.

Re: COME ON ABES GIVE US SOMETHING !!!
Yeah I know that's kind of my point you could say. There's always going to be someone disappointed even when an improvement they've been wishing for finally arrives. It will either be that it came too late or was not enough. It's the old glass half empty or half full.
The only thing that bothers me is when I feel I have no choice to move to a paid upgrade or next version for bug fixes for things that impede my workflow or require workaround. I can think of a couple times where that happened with other software I've used. But at least from my experience as a user since Ver 3, Ableton seems pretty good about tying up any loose ends before moving on to the next version. I usually don't upgrade to the next version until the one after that is almost coming out. I think I've avoided some headaches this way.
So that's why I like to see small additions & improvements to the current version. It's a lot better than if they would come out with Live 9 and then you have to upgrade to get that delay compensation latency pref for example, after development for Live 8 stopped...

Re: COME ON ABES GIVE US SOMETHING !!!
chronic malcontent-ism runs rampant these days true true
who can say that BW wont be missing alot of the things that make Live so great? and have a shitload of bugs of its own? and any number of other unforseen problems? and low quality rendering! (there will need to be tests)
