. Soon as I get off work I'm going to go register for classes at the nearest high school so I can be part of this monumental leap forward.

An easy way for publishers to create books with interactive content, for iBooks. If you're not an avid student, which this product caters to, you shouldn't have to care.Hidden Driveways wrote:Explain the iBook 2 thing to me. What is it, and why should iCare?

Seriously, I don't own an iPad, but that an adapter would be sold separately has got to be the worst excuse to dog the iPad?H20nly wrote:^holy shit! that's cool!!

Not everyone is going to need a USB in on the thing, and don't need the added cost. FYI these things might be expensive, but they have the least mark up of any Apple product, Apple makes up for that with the 10-20% they get for apps sold through the store.
Re: iPad
i wasn't dogging it. i was admiring it. i seriously thought/think that was/is a pretty damn cool setup.
after i posted i noticed the adapter and then remembered that the iPad has no USB ports.
seriously MW. no USB. but every fucking thing that attaches to anything these days is USB. in this case... USB - to adapter - to end result but, USB "it's in there"
if you and Apple want to pretend it's not... that's okay, but don't hate on me for noticing.

Re: iPad
The point is 99% of the people buying an iPad will have no use for USB which is technology that Apple has to pay licenses for= more expensive iPads.H20nly wrote:i wasn't dogging it. i was admiring it. i seriously thought/think that was/is a pretty damn cool setup.

Most people aren't trying to make an iPad into a music recording studio, they're messing around on the internet and reading PDFs on it. Oh, and Angry Birds!
So us in the 1% deal with that. Other pads take resources in other areas to compensate for the USB ports etc. Me and Apple? please, I'm getting a PC next. Platform agnostic mostly. My roommates all have Androids for instance and multi touch responsive-ity is noticeably slower, that's how you get the savings meeyan!

Respectfully, when you go Apple there's this huge mental hurdle of "I can't imagine not having [insert whatever it is here]" but once you start using it you find out quickly you don't need it most of the time anyway.
Personally I still find DAWs on the iPad somewhat limited and gimmicky and there's obvious reasons for the restrictions. But at the end of the day it's still a DAW on a 9" touch screen. How is that not fucking cool?

Re: iPad
@ beats - agreed and/or i can see your point, but in my experiences with this that and the other thing regarding computing and tech, i make do with what i have. i often have to be resourceful since for one reason or another (job related or personal) throwing money at it isn't an option. when you have a floppy you use a floppy, a CD, a DVD, a USB drive, a network resource, etc. etc. more options is a good thing typically because it means there's more than one route to fix or address an issue or concern - "more than one way to skin a cat" and therin lies my biggest beef with Apple. if you shoot a wad of jizz in that single connector you're done. will that happen? probably not (at least not like that), but when you have the option of expansion or transfer via SD card or whatever... you have just that... options. whether you pay for it when you purchase the device or you pay for it with an add on later you're still paying for it. when you have no options left, at that moment... you're truly paying the full price.
