ASIO problems continued!

Post by jaspr7 » Fri Jan 20, 2012 5:24 am

I cannot use ASIO with Ableton 8. No test tone, no nothing. I went as far as reformatting my computer and reinstalling everything. Now there is a crackling test tone and playback is horrendous. Like before, MME/Direct X works but not ASIO. But now even the playback using MME is sounding horrible. HELP!

1. Are you using the latest Saffire drivers? (probably found at their site)
2. When you select the device in Audio Preferences, choose the appropriate driver and device, then hit the config button to make sure you have the inputs/outputs that you intend to use turned off or on. Take note of which ones are available.
3. In rare cases, your audio interface software will prefer to be set when no programs (Ableton Live) are open and using it. Then you would just open the software for that interface and set appropriately.

Audio cards might have any number of outputs. It Can get tricky realizing which ones are in use. It can also get tricky discerning between say, your laptop soundcard, and an external device.

I think the Test Tone works on whichever channel you have selected in your Master Channel for the output. Try selecting different channels and then going back to the test tone

thanks for the help. It's not the test tone that I'm worried about per se, but I'm just using that as an example as to how my asio driver is not working properly. It lags and has crazy underruns where I cannot record or playback. MME works but the audio recording does not work for that only MIDI. I messed around with i/o settings ad nauseum. The frustrating thing is it was working fine and all of a sudden it stopped working. gahh
