Hi nechted, I'm using Live 4 on a Tibook 500MHz with OS 9.2.2 I would definately say you can still do serious work on it.

I certainly wouldn't say its too slow... By definition, reverb is a very CPU-hungry effect, you want quality, well your're going to take a performance hit. The Live Reverb effect can, at least be dialled to "economy/comfort/fist class" so you have the option of hi quality or not.

There are lost of freeware vst reverb plugins for OS9, a couple I use are Freeverb and Black Water Reverb (just google 'em to download).

Of course on the non-demo version of Live, you can print your reverb effects to audio to free up the cpu again, and in the new Live 5 (OSX only) you have Freeze Tracks which makes this even quicker.

Another trick is to use a lower quality reverb as a "placeholder" until it is time to render your final mix out of Live, at that point you substitute the hi-quality reverb and do an Offline Render.
