If considering switching DAW is based on which side of the screen volume controls are... Wow.

That's a fairly common feature request. He didn't say hes converting because of it.

I never said he was. I said that I would be amazed if someone switched DAW's for that reason. I migrated from Mackie Tracktion to Ableton Live, so I'm pretty much at home where the volume controls are. It would be awesome to drag areas where ever you wanted.

:D Ah, gotcha. I too would find it rather obnoxious to switch over what is, more or less, aesthetics. Im with ya though. A modular GUI would be key. Modular with dual screen support. Hell, three screens would be great if I could have a full mixer on my left, session view/device control in the middle, and arrangement view on the right. That, for me personally, would be great

I’m going to stop at 8 unless 9 includes a competitor DAW summing engine emulation plug-in. :x

what's so great about Arrange view in Live that any other DAW doesn't cover?

Bitwig is great for some competition, but BW would have to really crack open a new paradigm for me to switch [assuming said paradigm is better], and I just dont see that yet. So if its more or less the same workflow, well.... I just have my doubts that its as flexible, advanced, and as loaded as Live. BW will be pushed pretty far back in peoples minds when Live 9's released; I do believe the only reason everyone went kinda crazy when it was announcing the beta is a direct byproduct of the three year wait for L9.

tl;dr: I love me some live, and I just dont see me switching.
the problem with Bitwig right now is that it is basically a .jpeg. i know there are a lot of innovations on the web, but .jpeg and .gif files still don't record and edit audio/MIDI. i could sit down with Photoshop or Illustrator for a few hours and come up with an awesome [looking] DAW too. we'll be damned the day theory changes reality directly by skipping the conversion process. either that or we'll all have telekinesis and won't need DAWs anyway.

i dont have a problem with live but i did buy logic just after xmas and a mac pro vid subscription and im really liking it! im definitely seeing the benefit to more than one DAW as they have different things to offer and always will. im loving the deep deep editing and arranging of logic and the instruments and effects kick ass period. on the other hand the speed of getting ideas down in live is something else with session view, the mighty drum rack and auditioning samples from the browser triggered and played in time (including hotswap)! to do this in logic i have to convert everything to apple loops (although i think there is a 3rd party plug that manages your samples and you can audition them in time but cant remember what its called)
i think if anyone is thinking of going with bitwig my advise would be wait till live9 to make that choice as its not different enough from live to get the benefit of using both meaning you ll be using just one therefore limiting yourself once more. go for something totally different that compliments live and fills the gaps if you want another DAW.
the way i see myself producing now is getting ideas working together and warping and auditioning really fast in live then taking everything into logic ready for the serious stuff without the temptation of lives almost too fun atmosphere stopping me from finishing anything

Other than being able to quickly and smoothly drag clips back in forth between it, and session [as I do often in my workflow], nothing that I can think of really. I haven't tried every DAW out there because I don't have that kind of money for starters. Also, I spent a good deal of time researching which DAW I thought would be best for me, and decided on Live. I spent a year on bootlegged copy of FL3, and decided to purchase a DAW when I grew up a bit. Since then, Lives done everything I've needed workflow and tools wise. For me, there could be improvements, but that doesn't mean I think Live's really holding me back. I figure out a way to do anything I want in Live every time.
