the track ''1-MIDI'' has no audio output to freeze? help!

I have just brought a tempest drum machine and i have managed to sync it to live (i'm new to MIDI)

What i don't understand is how to transfer MIDI files into audio? When i try to freeze i get the error message

''the track ''1-MIDI'' has no audio output to freeze'' :-/

I'm on a mac book pro with M-audio fast track pro soundcard/MIDI interface, ableton 8 and tempest.

MIDI is instructional messages so presumably you have some device interpreting the MIDI instructions and producing sound. I'm pretty sure this is your Tempest.

Where does the audio out from the Tempest go? If it doesn't go back into that MIDI track then it's quite reasonable to assume that that track has no audio to freeze.

Why do you want to freeze the audio input from an external drum machine? Just record the audio input.
