LPD8 knob issues with newest ableton version

hello. i just got an lpd8. i've read tutorials and watched youtubes and tried to add scripts (though i think the newest versions of ableton actually communicate better with the lpd8 so i'm not sure how valid what i've read is). my issue is that i would like to set up the lpd8 knobs so that they will affect whatever parameters are currently selected and not just one specific set. what i mean is, if i have like 4 things going at once, i'd like to make it so maybe the pads select which clip i want to tweak and then the knobs will be used to tweak. right now i can only get the knobs to deal with one particular clip's parameters and not a more global thing. i tried messing with some scripts but they were for older ableton versions. is the script thing really the only way to do it now? thank you for any advice. i'm on the newest version of ableton, by the way. thank you again.

If I understand you correctly, you want to use the MIDI map feature. Ctrl(Command)+M, highlight the parameter in the VST or Live instrument/effect, then turn the knob you'd like to lock onto that param.
