Damn. You see, I usually steadfastly avoid these kinds of apps - where a monkey can basically make music whilst in it's death throes. There's a fucking million of them, and something named THUMBJAM. Well....something else comes to mind when I think of that term as well, but it seemed the perfect title for a SHIT music making app.
How wrong I was.

You are assuming that money will still exist by the time ss feels he has asked enough questions to take the plunge.

my airbook has an i7 chip, 4gigs of ram, ssd drive
how does that compare to the lowest imac for $1199
it's got an i5 chip, but it's an 2.5GHz quad-core
500gig drive i don't believe is ssd
same amount of ram
being that it's a quadcore and my airbook only has 2 cores just how much faster than
the airbook does that make it? or is the strength more in my airbooks 1.8 i7 chip?
I love the design of the 27" display over the 21"imac, I don't like the grey bottom half of the imac but willing to overlook that.
I wouldn't get the 21". The 27" is just insane in screen real estate. So in comparison to the monitor you're talking a base level of $1,700.
I tried playing Trine 2 (excellent platformer) on my 11" Macbook Air and within 2 minutes the fan started sounding like a B52, almost drowning out the audio from the game.

You probably don't see Macs as a gaming computer, and that was more of just a test for me, but probably for the first time ever it made me realize there's certain things I shouldn't throw at the Air.
yeah but don't you think if i've got a G to spend that I might as well get the imac 21 over the monitor only 27, the imac is faster than my 1.8 i7 airbook isn't it?
He meant get the 27" iMac, not the display.[/quote]
i assumed as much but i don't have 27" imac money, I've got 21"i-mack money, it's a little bit different as you can recognize i-mack money by it's tell tale amount which is considerably less than imac money... to go 27"imac i'd have to dip into my ipad 3 trust and we aint havin that

Maybe we should just start a kickstarter page to get the rest of the funds for him, mostly from forumites on here, baristas, makers of beat thang, etc. Just to get it over with. He's got a lot of catching up to do and will have to read through this whole thread to get up to par. I don't know if I have envy or pity to be in that situation...JUST DON'T GET IT STOLEN.

That's because it's number 2!
Dude, the mic pitch-tracking in Thumbjam is awesome.

This reminds me, a few months ago my roommate went out to dump the trash while talking on the phone with his girlfriend and accidentally dropped his phone down the shoot with the garbage. He then ran downstairs and in the dark jumped into the dumpster "full of spaghetti sauce and dirty diapers" to rescue his phone. His words, thus the quote. And that was for the dumb phone he got for free with his cell account. That kind of determination tells me he's worthy of an iPhone, but the fact that he dropped it in the first place tells me he's not.

My only gripe is that there's no standard keyboard layout option in Thumbjam.
But because it's got CoreMIDI, I can always just use an external.
